½ C butter
2½ C flour
1 Tbsp sugar
1 Tbsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1⅓ C milk
¾ C grated cheese (optional)
Heat oven to 350°F.
In 9×13 pan, melt margarine in oven as it heats. Remove pan and let cool a little. Combine dry ingredients in bowl. Add milk (and cheese, if desired). Stir just until dough forms. Turn dough onto well-floured surface (dough is soft). Roll dough around in flour to coat. Knead lightly ten times. Roll out to 9×13 rectangle. Cut rectangle once length-wise and then into 1-inch strips. Dip each strip into butter in pan, then set in pan and bake 20 minutes.
Note: this are especially good served alongside soup!
Yield: about 25 butter dips
Time to make: about 45 minutes
